Opening Hours and Closed Dates
Each location in Brikly has opening hours (the days of the week it opens, with optional times) and closed dates (bank holidays, Christmas, a refit). They live in Settings > Locations, so every Brik reads the same calendar.
Today SafetyBrik uses them: on a day a location is closed it expects no checklists and no diary to sign. See Closed days.
Opening hours
Each location card in Settings > Locations shows its hours in one line, for example "Open every day" or "Closed Wed and Sun, 08:00 to 16:00". A location with no hours set is open every day.
Click Opening hours on a location to open its hours. There is one row for each day of the week, with an Open or Closed switch and optional opening and closing times.
- Changes apply from tomorrow, so today keeps its hours. A change waiting to start shows after today's hours, for example ". From Wed 7 Oct: Closed Wed and Sun".
- Times are optional. SafetyBrik only uses the open days.
- At least one day must be open. "Choose at least one day the location opens. To close it for a while, add a closed date instead."
- A location must close before midnight. A closing time at or before the opening time says, for example, "Friday closes before it opens. Opening past midnight isn't supported, so the latest closing time is 23:59."
- To close today, add a closed date for today under Closed dates, or use Mark closed today in SafetyBrik.
Hours can be set for a location that has been switched off. If the hours can't be loaded, the page says "Opening hours didn't load." with Retry, rather than showing every location as open.
Closed dates
The Closed dates card lists closed dates coming up and those in the last 28 days ("Bank holidays, Christmas, a refit: days a location, or every location, is shut."). With SafetyBrik, it adds "SafetyBrik expects nothing on a closed day: no checklists and no diary to sign."
To add one:
- Choose the Location, or All locations (the default). A business with one location doesn't see this choice: its closed dates are for that location.
- Pick the day it is Closed on, and an Until day if it is closed for several days in a row.
- Add a Reason if you like, for example "Christmas Day". It shows on the SafetyBrik screens, the diary and the EHO Report Pack.
- Click Add closed date.
A closed date can go up to 28 days back, and can cover up to a year. Picking a day that has already passed warns you first: days before today stay on record once added, and can only be removed on the day you add them. Adding the same closed date twice keeps one.
Removing a closed date
What happens depends on when the closed date is:
- One that hasn't started yet is removed.
- One under way (Monday to Friday, removed on Wednesday, say) ends yesterday, after the question Reopen from today?. Monday and Tuesday stay closed on record, and the location is open again from today.
- One that has passed stays on record: "Passed: kept on record". Reports for those days rely on it. The only exception is a closed date added today, which you can still remove in full until the end of the day ("Added today: can be removed until the end of today"), in case it was added by mistake.
What it means for SafetyBrik
A change takes effect straight away:
- Nothing is made for a location on a closed day, and nobody is reminded about it.
- Checklists for a newly closed day that nobody had started become Closed within moments: neither done nor missed, and left out of the safety score, the 4-weekly review and the Missed counts. Checklists someone had already started stay open.
- The diary needs no signature on a closed day, and shows Closed with the reason.
- Removing a closed date brings back today's and later checklists. Removing one added today by mistake also brings back the earlier days: their checklists become Missed if their day, week or month is over, or open again if it isn't.
- SafetyBrik's Audit Log records Opening hours changed, Closed date added and Closed date removed, with who did it.
Mark closed today, on the SafetyBrik dashboard and Checklists page, adds a closed date for today and closes today's checklists at once. It shows here like any other closed date.
Who can change them
Owners and admins add and remove closed dates and change opening hours. Members and viewers can see them: the opening hours open read-only, with "Only an owner or admin can change opening hours. Ask one of them to do this." See Roles and Permissions.
