Modifier Mapper
The Modifier Mapper does for your till's modifiers what the Item Mapper does for its menu items. A modifier is an option added to an item at the till, such as "Oat milk", "Extra shot" or "No cheese". Give a modifier a recipe and Brikly knows what it adds to the cost of the item, and which allergens it brings.
Open it from Modifier Mapper in the sidebar, under POS Sync. It needs a connected till and CostingBrik.
What you see
Modifiers are grouped by the modifier list they belong to on your till, for example "Milk options" or "Extras". Click a group to open it. Each group shows how far along it is, for example "4/6 built", where modifiers marked as not needing a recipe count as done.
Each modifier shows:
- an amber Build tag while it still needs a recipe, Built once it has one, or No recipe needed once you have marked it;
- for a built modifier, its type: Addition, Removal or Swap;
- whether it is Active or Hidden;
- what it adds to the item's cost, or saves for a removal, and its portion.
Above the list, a count shows how many modifiers are configured and how many still need recipes. Use View to switch between Active only and All modifiers.
Syncing your modifiers
Click Sync with Square (the button is named after your till) to pull in modifiers you have added since. If the list is empty when you open it with a till connected, Brikly syncs on its own.
Building a recipe for a modifier
Click Build on a modifier, or Edit once it has a recipe, to open its page. Choose what kind of modifier it is:
- Addition - adds ingredients, such as an extra shot or a vanilla syrup.
- Removal - takes an ingredient away, such as "No cheese".
- Swap - replaces one ingredient with another, such as oat milk instead of whole milk.
Add its ingredients and click Save Recipe. If the amount differs from one menu item to another, choose Varies by menu item and set the quantities for each item on the next screen.
Once an addition or swap has a recipe, its allergens come from that recipe's ingredients, and it shows on the SafetyBrik allergen matrix under Add-ons and swaps. Removals are not listed there, because their recipe is what comes off the item.
Modifiers that don't need a recipe
Some modifiers add nothing to eat or drink: "Extra hot", "Well done", a grind size, a gift bag. Mark these as not needing a recipe, so they stop counting as needing one. There are two ways:
- In the list, click the no-entry icon on the modifier's row and confirm Mark as No Recipe Needed. This marks that one modifier.
- On the modifier's page, click Skip: No Recipe Needed.
To undo it, click the same icon on the row and choose Require Recipe.
What this does to the allergen matrix
Until it has a recipe, an active add-on is listed on the allergen matrix and the kiosk as not fully known, so staff and guests are told to ask the kitchen (see Add-ons with no recipe). Marking it as not needing a recipe takes it off the matrix straight away. Unmarking it puts it back.
So only mark a modifier that adds no ingredients. A syrup, "Add butter" or "Add cream" needs a recipe: build one, and the matrix shows its allergens instead. Both the skip panel and the confirmation say so.
Modifiers with the same name
The allergen matrix shows add-ons with no recipe once per name. If "Caramel Syrup" is on three of your modifier lists, the matrix has one "Caramel Syrup" row, and it stays until every one of the three has a recipe or is marked as not needing one.
When other modifiers with no recipe share the name, the modifier's page shows a box under the skip panel, for example "Also mark the 2 other modifiers with the same name that have no recipe."
- If you came from the allergen matrix, through the row's Link a recipe, or mark it as not needing one link or its Not fully known badge, the box is already ticked, so one click on Skip: No Recipe Needed clears the whole row.
- If you opened the page from the Modifier Mapper list, the box starts unticked, and only this modifier is marked unless you tick it.
Marking a modifier from the icon on its row in the list always marks just that one.
When the box is ticked, the message afterwards names how many others were marked, for example ""Caramel Syrup" and 2 other modifiers with the same name marked as no recipe needed".
After you build a recipe for an add-on, the matrix shows it with the recipe's allergens, normally within a minute.
Hiding modifiers
Click the eye icon on a modifier to hide one you no longer sell, or the eye icon on a group to hide every modifier in it. Switch View to All modifiers to see hidden ones and unhide them.
A hidden modifier is not listed on the allergen matrix either, so only hide modifiers you no longer sell.
Permissions
Viewers can see the Modifier Mapper. Syncing, building recipes, marking modifiers and hiding them need edit access (owner, admin or member).
