SafetyBrik Overview
SafetyBrik is the digital replacement for the SFBB (Safer Food Better Business) pack - the paper folder that has lived under the till of every UK cafe, bakery, and small restaurant for the last twenty years. Everything the FSA expects you to record - safe methods, daily diary, fridge temperatures, opening and closing checks, cleaning schedules, supplier checks, staff training, the 4-weekly review - lives inside SafetyBrik instead of a battered ring binder.
SafetyBrik is free. There is no trial, no card required, no upgrade pop-up hiding the diary behind a paywall. Food safety is a legal obligation for every UK caterer, and we think the digital tools that help you meet it should be free at the point of use.
What is SFBB?
The Safer Food Better Business pack is the FSA's food safety management system for small caterers. It is the document an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) asks for on the day of their visit. Traditionally it has been a printed booklet plus a stack of daily and weekly logs that the operator fills in by hand. SafetyBrik replicates the entire pack - the structure, the language, the record-keeping obligations - in software you can use on a laptop at the back of house or a tablet on the pass.
Why is it free?
SafetyBrik is the front door to Brikly. Operators who run their food safety on Brikly tend to add CostingBrik for recipe costs, StockBrik for inventory, and TeamBrik for rotas and training. Free SafetyBrik lets us help every UK kitchen - whether they pay us a penny or not - and gives the paid Briks a natural home to grow into.

Allergens flow in from CostingBrik
If you are also using CostingBrik, the allergen matrix is not a second data-entry job. Every recipe carries ingredient-level allergen attribution, and SafetyBrik reads that automatically. When you add oat milk to a flat white in CostingBrik, the SafetyBrik allergen matrix updates the same minute. See CostingBrik allergens and recipe allergens for how the source data is captured.
Where SafetyBrik runs
SafetyBrik is currently a web application. Two more surfaces are on the roadmap:
- Team App (mobile) - so staff can complete fridge checks, opening checklists, and diary entries from a phone on the floor.
- Kiosk app - a dedicated tablet experience for back-of-house, designed to live mounted near the prep station.
Today the web app is the primary surface and supports every SafetyBrik feature.
Most operators get SafetyBrik live in under 30 minutes. Start with the onboarding wizard - it imports your existing SFBB documents, classifies them with AI, and sets up your equipment, cleaning schedules, and chemical register from what it finds.
