Kiosk Devices

A kiosk is a shared tablet running the Brikly Kiosk app at one of your sites. Staff sign in on it with their passcode to clock in and out, and to work through SafetyBrik checklists. This page covers pairing tablets, keeping track of them, unpairing them, and what happens to punches made while a tablet is offline.

Pairing a Kiosk

Each tablet is paired to one of your sites:

  1. Open the Brikly Kiosk app on the tablet.
  2. Sign in with the email and password of an owner or admin of your business.
  3. Choose the location the tablet is at.

From then on the tablet works on its own, and staff sign in with their passcodes. Nobody stays signed in as the owner or admin.

Pairing is refused for a location that has been switched off or removed ("This location is not available. Choose an active location."), and for a business account that is not active ("This business account is not active, so you can't pair a kiosk.").

The Kiosk Devices List

Owners and admins can see every paired tablet in Settings > Locations, on the Kiosk devices card. It appears for businesses with StaffBrik or SafetyBrik, and for any business that still has a tablet paired, so the tablet can always be unpaired.

For each tablet the card shows:

  • Its name and location.
  • Who paired it and when, for example "Paired 12 Sep 2026 by Jo Smith".
  • When it was last seen, and the app version it is running.
  • A Location switched off badge if its site is no longer active.

Turn on Show unpaired kiosks to see tablets that have been removed too, with when and by whom ("Unpaired 2 Oct 2026 by Jo Smith"). A business with no tablets sees No kiosks paired yet.

Unpairing a Kiosk

From Settings

Click Unpair next to a tablet on the Kiosk devices card and confirm. The tablet stops working on its next request and goes back to its pairing screen. To use it again, an owner or admin signs in on the tablet and pairs it.

This is the quickest way to deal with a lost or stolen tablet, because you do not need the tablet in your hands.

On the Tablet

In the kiosk app, open Kiosk settings and choose Unpair this device. The tablet asks for the email and password of an owner or admin of this business. Anyone else is refused: "This account does not belong to this kiosk's business." or "Only an owner or admin can unpair a kiosk. Ask one of them to do this." A wrong email or password reads "That email or password is not right."

If the tablet still has records that have not reached Brikly (see Offline Punches), it warns you first and lists them. Unpairing deletes them from the tablet, so the button becomes Unpair and delete saved records. Send them first, or note them down so a manager can add them by hand.

After unpairing, nobody stays signed in on the tablet.

Switching Off or Removing a Location

Switching off (deactivating) or deleting a location unpairs every kiosk paired to it, for good:

  • If the location has a paired kiosk, StaffBrik asks first: "Deactivating Station Road unpairs its kiosk. Activating the location again won't re-pair it: an owner or admin will need to pair the tablet again from the Brikly Kiosk app."
  • Deleting a location with a paired kiosk says "This also unpairs its kiosk." in the confirmation.
  • Switching the location back on does not re-pair its tablets. An owner or admin pairs each one again.

Only owners and admins can switch locations on or off, or remove them.

"This kiosk can't be used right now"

If a tablet's site has been switched off some other way, or your business account is not active, the tablet shows This kiosk can't be used right now, with the reason:

  • "This kiosk's location is no longer active. Ask an owner or admin to pair it to an active location."
  • "This business account is not active, so this kiosk can't be used."

Check again tries once more, and Kiosk settings lets an owner or admin unpair the tablet without anyone signing in first. A kiosk on an inactive business account stays paired, and works again as soon as the account is active, without pairing again.

A renamed site or business shows on the tablet after it restarts or after the next sign-in.

Offline Punches

If the tablet loses its connection, staff can still clock in and out. Each punch is saved on the tablet with:

  • The time it was tapped, not the time it reaches Brikly.
  • The person who tapped it, even if someone else is signed in when it is finally sent.

The screen says Saved on this tablet, waiting to sync instead of Done, and the clock screen shows the waiting punch as the person's current state ("Your clock in at 07:00 is saved on this tablet and waiting to sync."). Home shows a quiet line while records are waiting, or if any were not accepted. Checklists completed offline are saved and sent in the same way.

Saved punches are sent automatically when the connection returns. Sending one twice never creates a second clock entry.

Saved on This Tablet

Kiosk settings lists everything waiting under Saved on this tablet: who, what and when, with a status:

  • Waiting to sync - not sent yet.
  • Still trying - sending has failed a few times, with the last reason.
  • Not recorded - Brikly did not accept it, with the reason.

Send now tries straight away. A record that was not accepted stays on the list until a manager deals with it: an owner or manager signed in on the kiosk can Dismiss it, after confirming. With nobody signed in, the list is read-only and says "A manager can dismiss a record that was not accepted once they are signed in." Before dismissing, add the time by hand in Attendance if it was a real punch.

Punches Brikly Will Not Record

To keep timesheets honest, some punches are refused for a manager to record by hand:

  • A punch more than 7 days old.
  • A punch in the future (more than a couple of minutes ahead, so check the tablet's date and time).
  • A clock-in that would overlap an entry already on record.
  • A clock-in for someone who is already clocked in ("You're already clocked in."), or a clock-out for someone who is not clocked in ("You're not clocked in.").

If someone was archived after tapping a clock-out while the tablet was offline, the clock-out still closes their last entry at the time they tapped it.
